Caribbean Multihull Challenge Race and Rally Plans Come Together
Dec 08, 2022
CMC V
As the race to the start of the 5th Caribbean Multihull Challenge – 3 February, all good things are happening. The Racing list is growing containing a host of fast, powerful multihulls ready to duke it out on the water. Previous entries are back including the impressive Bieker 53 Fujin, the dramatic 51’ Schionning 2-2 Tango and St Maarten’s Arawak, the Joubert/Nivelt 52. Entered for the first time, are the Gunboat 60 Cui Bono and an Outremer 51 Mo’orea. Add these to a fleet of six Diam 24 trimarans flying in local waters.
For 2023, CMC organizers at the SMYC introduced a concurrently run CMC Cruising Rally stopping at French-side Anse Marcel and then Anguilla’s Sandy Ground. It appears that this Rally – open to all multihulls is taking off. Joining with a good thing, Phillp Berman’s Balance Brand cats have signed up to celebrate their 10th anniversary with the CMC in SXM. Four are now registered. More to come.
While the CMC tends to emphasize big multi’s, CMC Racing will see action in other classes with Catana, Corsair, Leopard, Neel, and others represented. Racing and Cruising considered, a record turnout of 30 – 35 boats will be sailing and having fun in SXM waters.
International yachting press will be on island to cover it all. For them a highlight will be the newly branded ‘CMC Trifecta’ consisting of three distance races held over three days; a 60 mile circuit up to, across, and down from St. Barth’s, called the Sprint and sponsored by FKG Rigging; a 52 mile power reaching blast over to Saba and back, called the Dash and sponsored by the Sint Maarten Tourist Bureau; and a challenging 27 mile circumnavigation of St Maarten/St Martin sponsored by Amstel Bright Beer. The winner of the Trifecta will win a $2,000.00 Oris Aquis Diver’s watch.
Race/Rally registration is open until Thursday 2 February at 1400 hrs. Registration and details at YachtScoring.com/ and at CaribbeanMultihullChallenge.com
