CMC VII Offers a New Overall Sponsor for the Legendary CMC Trifecta!
Chris Marshall of FKG Hydraulics and Rigging has tripled down on his company’s support of the 7th CMC Trifecta™️ set for three of the four days of racing for CSA 1 rated boats in the event. Originally, in 2022, FKG sponsored only the Sprint which is a 60 nautical mile race from Simpson Bay up to and around St. Barth’s, down the Anguilla Channel and back up again to Simpson Bay. This race has seen everything from Mod 70’s, Gunboats, HH’s, custom one-offs, and production boats of all kinds battle light, medium, and heavy winds and seas in search of new course records.
In addition to the Sprint, the Trifecta consists of two more tests of speed. One, the 52 mile Saba Dash™ sponsored by Sint Maarten Tourism that boasts straight line speeds across the trade winds on reaches back and forth across the expected strong NE trades from the start to finish in Simpson Bay. To add a little spice, the course now runs from Saba back to Sint Maarten and a mark off of the Western end of the island, making for a serious beat back to the finish.
Completing the three is the SXM Circle Race™ around the 27 mile circumference of the island itself. Here is where each multi’s navigator earns his/her pay. Lots of ways to boost or hinder a boat’s speed depending on routes taken.
Organizers are often asked which days of the four offer the Trifecta. That answer is impossible to give in advance as it is a given day’s wind and weather that will determine Race Officer Chris Mansfield’s decision.
The only guarantee is that he will work to get all three in regardless, reserving a fourth day for two shorter races to make for a total of five for overall CMC championship purposes. FKG will make a gorgeous Trifecta Trophy for the winner of the Trifecta which will be presented by Chris Marshall at final prize-giving on Sunday 2 February at the Club.
The unusually light or non-existent winds of early February created a nightmare scenario for our RO in CMC VI; but we are all expecting a more normal weather pattern for CMC VII. Enter now and we will see you there!
