The Fourth Annual Caribbean Multihull Challenge kicked off today where it was announced that a special race from Simpson Bay to and around Saba and back will occur during the Fifth Annual Caribbean Multihull Challenge (CMC V). The CMC V is to be held on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of February 2023 and will receive support from the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau.
“St. Maarten already have a reputation in the global sailing community and the CMC compliments this by attracting a different category and a rapidly growing community of multi hull sailors that like to compete in the sailing race. This is in line with the goal of the ministry to continue to support and develop the marine sector and tourism product.” stated Minister Lawrence.
“We are pleased that another sailing event takes place in St. Maarten as this is one of our niche market sectors we focus on to diversify the tourism industry and to increase the destination awareness and arrivals, Says director of Tourism May-Ling Chun.
Stephen Burzon, volunteer Director of Marketing for the CMC is delighted to work with Government to help this regatta grow. “For this year’s CMC IV we’ve introduced a new unique racing feature which is a 60 nautical mile Sprint from Simpson Bay up and around St. Barth; then across to Tintamarre; then down the Anguilla Channel; to round the western end of SXM; for a beat back up to the finish in Simpson Bay. We can offer these kinds of courses with the speeds that cruising multihulls are capable of even while accommodating a luxurious interior.
With the Around Saba Race added to the Sprint for 2023, we are celebrating the concentration of multihulls in Sint Maarten and fueling the desire of more and more owners to sail, race, and cruise in this gorgeous place.”
